Public Art
Not much to show, this week, even though the topic was our suggestion. Barry is still recovering from yesterday's chemotherapy. For an update on his condition, please click here.
However here are a few unusual examples of public art from our archives.
Check out our side bar for links to other FSO contributions this week!

I enjoyed seeing the public art from your archives...especially the mural. Hope Barry has a good day and better weekend....Sue
ReplyDeleteLove the totem pole and the mural. Not too crazy about the spider, but it is a conversation piece. Good bless you both.
ReplyDeleteQMM
The day after chemo is always a pretty good day, thanks to all the premeds they pump into you, Texas Gal.
ReplyDeleteThe spider sculpture is located right outside the National Museum of Art of Ottawa, QMM. Not exactly my town, but close enough. And I couldn't resist showing it.
ReplyDeleteThat spider is a huge freak-out piece: love it! The totem is a very special kind of art; Canada of course has the very best examples. There is a little town near us that has tons of murals; my post got long enough without showing them, but I really like murals. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou've been to Ottawa and seen Shelob, I see.
ReplyDeleteThe spider actually made me jump! Thanks for sharing these treasures from the archives. I'm heading over to check on Barry's progress report now.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you joined the shoot-out even though things are rough.
Thanks Barry and Linda about the ad ware in my posts. Will be glad if you catch a Pop and see who is sponsoring them.
ReplyDeleteYour spider is very frightening. The legs are so tiny and I hope they don't rot. Would be terrible if they fell on some kid.
It is amazingly coincidental, I have lived in Borneo, Canada and New Zealand. The Natives in these 3 countries have similar totem poles.
That spider's a solid beast, Ann. Have no fear.
ReplyDeleteThat spider is amazing...that in itself is a great post. I have never seen anything like it.
ReplyDeleteAs a footnote to Barry's comment about the location of the spider, the sculptor Louise Bourgeois passed away last month at the age of 98. More info here: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601088&sid=a8q1na38R8cA
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible spider! By the way, please tell Barry that he was right, of course, the first shot on my blog was the Ottawa War Memorial. Also, it is wonderful to see you again on Blogspot, Linda.
ReplyDeleteI love that spider, sure to freak someone out! but not me......lol
ReplyDeleteI love the totem pole. I wonder, how tall is it? not a fan of spiders, but the one you have here is ok. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link Elaine. Fascinating article.
ReplyDeleteIt was about 20' tall Doreen.
ReplyDeleteI like the spider art, but it kind of freaks me out too. I love murals. I'd love to see them all over town. There's a town in the bay area of CA that has murals on every street corner. Come to think of it, downtown Tucson has quite a few as well.
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is a good one!
Love the first photo most. I've seen it on a movie.
ReplyDeletePlease take care each other, Linda and Barry.
That spider is _just_ like the one outside the Guggenheim in Bilbao. Does it travel, or is there more than one? Since it was raining that day, I didn't tarry to read the plaque next to the one in Spain.
