Because we are cut off from the rest of the City by that meandering waterway, we have bridges to connect us to the greater community.
Oh yes, we have bridges.
In all shapes and sizes.
From planks casually thrown across rivulets.
To small walking and biking bridges.
To medium sized bridges just large enough to accommodate one lane of traffic going in each direction.
If you have time and don't mind a bit of colour on a black and white themed day, here is a short video I shot back in May of 2008 of the new bridge that crosses Highland Creek just as it empties into Lake Ontario. Lindsay is along for the walk and will show us the way.
Great shot! The first picture is very familiar to me since in the Philippines that is a usual scenery. Happy weekend!

Loved your photos, such a gammut of bridges! The video is lovely. Seeing Lindsay and hearing her little feet and hearing the red-winged blackbird, duck and seagull. It was blissful. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLiked the creativity with the plank shot!
ReplyDeleteWow, you covered quite the gamut of options from a plank to multiple highway bridges. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThat's 6th photo is a very familiar sight here, it's cris-crossing our city to alleviate the traffic problem.
ReplyDeleteLindsay looks like she's having so much fun in that video, what a nice place to walk. Your variety of bridges is great, too. B&W makes everything look very artsy!
ReplyDeleteLove the plank - well done! And the sort of sad last photo! Thanks for sharing the video, I really enjoyed that walk.
ReplyDeleteBarry, you have a wonderful voice. I liked hearing you talk. I loved the clink, clink, clink of Lindsays feet and the chirping of the birds. It sounded like such a blissful walk.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed all of your photos but I really the seventh photo. The perspective on that one is so powerful. It draws me in. I like the creativity of the plank too.
The photos were great but my favorite things was the sound of Lindsey's feet!
ReplyDeleteLindsay is always upstaging me Mark. I'm used to it by now. lol
ReplyDeleteLoved the sound of Lindsay's little feet running across the bridge. Was a perfect time for a walk. Early morning is very sacred time.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.

Oh I just loved all the different kinds of bridges you shot! The plank brought back memories of creek forging as a kid! Wonderful shoot out! Hugs, Sarah
ReplyDeleteOh marvelous. Something about bridges just captures our imaginations, the suggested journeys and all that.
ReplyDeleteThere was a slight buffering thing go on that gave your video a very slight time-lapse sort of feeling. The click of Lindsay's nails didn't quite match up, as she trotted away, there was something very pleasingly surreal about the movements.
It was entirely fitting for bridges and the little imagination journeys they inspire.
I loved the video - course I am a Lindsay fan - oh and you too!
ReplyDeleteyou have a nice voice so I am hoping you do your lecturing.... you will be good at it.
You were busy :) I almost shot a video of the bridge where we were on taking a photo of the bridge crossing the damn...such a roaring sound, but I didn't. It was too cold out there for me this morning :)
ReplyDeletethe plank across a creek or mud puddle is a classic! glad you added it to the many bridges our group has posted.
ReplyDeleteIt is a small stream running off from the beaver dam, Doreen.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a nice touch.
Great bridges, Barry. I especially like the freeway from underneath, and the two of the walking bridge. Does the sign on the one bridge mean it expired in 2004? that would be fun.
ReplyDeleteIt was just about to expire, Nancy, but they caught it in time. It was originally built in 1974 and was rebuilt in 2004.
ReplyDeleteBefore 1974 it was just a one lane bailey bridge.
I love bridges, and all of yours, but the simplicity of the wood plank tells of our beginnings, and an engineers creative spark!
ReplyDeleteOr just some kids out playing ChefE.
